The Goon Sax
Inspired by the Pastels, Jonathan Richman and Arthur Russell, Brisbane teen strummers The Goon Sax premiered first single Sometimes Accidentally on Brooklyn Vegan while still in high school in late 2015, and picked up by BBC6 airplay within hours.
The album manages to capture all the awkwardness, self-doubt and visceral thrill of teenage life, while still in the thick of actually living it. Up To Anything earned 5 stars from The Guardian, and raves from Pitchfork, NME, Mojo, Uncut and Spin.
The band headed to Europe and the UK during school holidays in September 2016, playing to 1500 people in Barcelona, selling out London and Manchester shows and recording sessions for BBC6 and Radio X. In Australia they played Laneway and Meredith Festivals, with upcoming shows including supports for Teenage Fanclub in Brisbane and Sydney.
Up To Anything was Metacritic’s 8th best-reviewed debut album worldwide in 2016 (and best Australian debut), also making it into end of year best-of lists for Rough Trade, Billboard, BBC6, FBI Radio and 4ZZZ.
