Negative Gemini is American songwriter, singer, and producer Lindsey French known for her contemporary take on electronic indie and her experimentation between genres. After moving to Brooklyn in 2014, the Virginia native released her self-produced album Body Work via her own record label (100% Electronica) earning early comparisons to the likes of Hope Sandoval and Gwen Stefani. With its unique blend of underground dance beats and pop hooks, Body Work quickly found itself the darling of many music publications, garnering critical acclaim from everyone from Tiny Mix Tapes, Nylon, and The Fader, to most notably full features with interviews on both Bandcamp Daily and MTVnews. The album was a huge success and hit number one best selling vinyl on Bandcamp upon it’s release, which quickly sold out. It was #21 on Gorilla vs Bear’s Best Albums of 2016 year-end list. French would spend the next two years touring North America with her label mate George Clanton (also known as ESPRIT) while writing the songs that would come to form Bad Baby. Already established as a strong female presence in the NY electronic music scene, French’s new EP Bad Baby redefined contemporary electronic, as her sound shifted to focus on a more intimate approach to songwriting. Her first single off the release entitled You Weren’t There Anymore topped the charts of music blog aggregator Hype Machine and was praised by Pitchfork, MOKB, Gorilla vs Bear, Bandcamp Daily, and SPIN among other major publications and was quickly followed by a second single Bad Baby which won a spot on Spotify’s Undercurrents playlist and was named one of January’s best singles by Resident Advisor. The track reached epic circulation via Tiny Mix Tapes, iOhYou, Gorilla vs Bear, and was named a best song of the month by Pigeons and Planes. In January Negative Gemini revealed a third single Infin Path, which was premiered by Resident Advisor and became generally regarded as the EP’s best track yet. Upon the six track EP’s release January 19th 2018, The Bad Baby EP received further praise from Pitchfork, SPIN, Bandcamp Daily, and was named best Bandcamp release of January by FACTmag as well as claimed a spot on Gorillla vs Bear’s Best of 2018 (so far) list. French also had a full feature and interview with both i-D and Interview Magazine. Since the EP’s release, she has done radio interviews, performances, and appearances across the globe, including ones with Red Bull Radio, London’s NTS radio, national Australian radio Triple J, and New York’s own WNYU. Her music can be heard regularly on global satellite radio station Sirius XMU. Her EP release party held in Brooklyn’s favorite new venue Elsewhere was quickly a sold out show, as was the one prior to it in NYC. Quickly following the EP’s release, Negative Gemini premiered her first music video for single ‘Bad Baby’ via The Fader, which rose quickly to become one of her most popular videos on YouTube. Negative Gemini just wrapped up headlining her first ever North American tour and will go back on the road this spring in the states. Look for her this fall as she embarks on her highly anticipated first European tour.
